Mkate means "bread' in Swahili, the national language of Tanzania.

Our mkate baskets are handwoven by talented Women Artisans with WomenCraft, an NGO in Tanzania, who we work with to support fair income and continued trade.

These baskets are ideal for serving fresh warm bread and displaying on your tabletop.  For this basket, locally harvested grasses are dried in the sun and then intricately woven together. They have a wonderful sheen to them adding elegance and texture to your tabletop.
