Mkate means "bread' in Swahili, the national language of Tanzania.
 
Our mkate baskets are woven by talented Women Artisans with WomenCraft, an NGO in Tanzania, who we work with to support fair income and continued trade. 
 
These baskets are ideal for serving fresh warm bread and displaying on your tabletop. For this basket, the dried brown bark of local banana trees is intricately woven into the natural grasses.
